Snider Students Organize Donation Drive

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - People across the country were moved to provide help to Haiti after the earthquake.

But for some local high schoolers, it hit even closer to home.

Pictures of the January 12th quake caught the attention of Snider High School students and teachers.

A Snider grad is doing mission work there and for years, Snider has collected money, food and clothes for an orphanage there at Christmas time.

But a new donation drive was organized as soon as it became clear that people of the island nation needed more help.

Snider students say the project has made them think about the world, and will stick with them for a long time.

Snider High School Junior Brianna Williams says, “After we saw those pictures again and after we, like, got involved in helping, that's just something that I personally can't forget and I'm sure many other people at Snider can't forget. So I'm going to continue to help and I'm sure Snider and other people who learned about it will keep remembering and help.”

The money being sent will be earmarked for home construction. With the cost of housing in Haiti the $5,000 could help as many as 10 families get a roof over their heads.
