FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Local state lawmakers say their move to allow school districts to move funding from one pot to another, to deal with budget shortfalls was one of the best things they did all session.
The legislators met with local Chamber of Commerce members Wednesday morning to discuss how the legislative session will affect them.
Another major success the "Republicans" cited was voting to allow residents to vote in November whether they want to amend the state constitution to make property tax caps, permanent.
And they touted delaying business's contribution to the unemployment fund.
State Senator Tom Wyss: "That was very critical to business, and it was really quite of interest to me that it took us so long to get it, because it meant jobs."
State Representative Win Moses: "We may, in the upcoming years, have to extend it even farther. It does, though, leave us in a deficit position with the federal government of about $1.6 billion that we will have to correct."
This is an annual event for the local chamber and area legislators.
