NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The long road to economic recovery is passing through Wabash County.
Officials with trailer manufacturer Novae have announced they are investing $3.4 million in the former Dexter Axle facility outside North Manchester.
"This really is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of really good people," said President and Chief Development Officer Mike Bermes.
On Wednesday afternoon, 10 gleaming shovels ceremoniously marked the beginning of a renovation process for the facility, which will be transformed from an empty warehouse into an enclosed trailer production line.
Once that's done, 80-100 workers will be added over the next 18 to 24 months as production picks up on the company's Sure-Trac enclosed trailers.
Company officials say in spite of the sluggish economy, their business has grown 15% while posting record profits.
But they still needed help with their expansion.
Novae officials received $50,000 in performance-based tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Assistance will also come from Wabash County, North Manchester and the City of Wabash.
"That's exactly what we're trying to do," said Governor Mitch Daniels who was on hand to celebrate. "If we can tend to our business, guard the taxpayer's dollar and keep taxes low while the economy is other states is eroding, we can continue to make sure Indiana is a place where Novae's can be born, develop and thrive."
Company leaders say they will host a job fair at the plant on Friday March 26th from 9:00am to 2:30. The facility is located at 11870 N 650 E, along Indiana 114, just east of North Manchester.
