INDIANA (Indiana's NewsCenter) - In Indiana’s third district congressional contest, Democrat challenger Tom Hayhurst is hoping the turmoil in Washington will benefit his efforts to knock off the established incumbent.
Hayhurst is the heavy favorite to claim the Democrat Party nomination May 4th.
But he's also keeping an eye on the GOP Primary, where eight-term incumbent Mark Souder is fending off attack ads put out by wealthy car dealer Bob Thomas.
Hayhurst thinks voter dis-satisfaction with Congress will help his cause.
Hayhurst said, “I honor our founding fathers who believe that citizens should come from all walks of life and be citizen legislators. After a period of time, pack up their bags, go back home and open the door for somebody else to come forward. I think that's how the system is supposed to work."
Souder defeated Hayhurst in the third district election in 2006.
