KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The Kosciusko County Sheriff's department is investigating a fatal shooting in the town of Cromwell. Technicians with the Sheriff's Department now believe there were two shooters in the incident. They say they are questioning the man's 15 year old step-son and a twelve year boy.
Police found 49-year-old Philliop Danner shot to death in a home in the Enchanted Hills addition of Cromwell, Indiana. They say he was shot twice in the head as he sat at his kitchen table. They believe the shooting happened sometime before midnight last evening.
The 15-year-old's mother, Danner's wife, is on vacation in Florida. She was not home at the time of the shooting.
Three juveniles are in police custody in Kosciusko this evening. Officers suspect that they drove to Peru, Illionois after the shooting, where they were pulled over around 3:00 a.m. this morning.
Peru is about 100-miles southwest of Chicago and about 225-miles from the Cromwell crime scene.
Danners step-son, a freshman at Wawasee High School in Syracuse, and two twelve year old boys were in the vehicle. Officers say an employee at Wal-Mart called to alert Peru law enforcement after the boys tried to exchange coins for paper bills.
Officers are also saying that the boys have extensive information about the shooting, and that one of the 12-year-old boys said that the 15-year-old had shot his step-father following an arguement.
After being questioned in Peru, the boys were brought back to Indiana this afternoon.
Sheriff's Department officials say they have not been called to the home for disputes in the past, and this has been a shock for everyone injvolved.
Neighbors say the family never had any public fights, and they are still trying to figure out how this could have happened. Although the area has had issues in recent years with meth explosions, a police stand off, and a stabbing, they say it is still a surprise that someone so young could possibly be involved in a crime such as this.
