Hazardous Material Spill In Adams, Allen And Van Wert Counties

INDIANA (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Crews are cleaning a hazardous farm materials spill, which spread across three local counties.

Officials say about 1,800 pounds of liquid nitrogen ran off into Flat Rock Creek in Adams County Wednesday evening.

The spill wound through Adams, Allen and Van Wert counties before workers could dam the creek and stop the spread.

John August with the Adams County Emergency Management team says, “We don't want it to be in the stream and kill fish and other wildlife and maybe affect individuals as far as if it got into a water system.”

A diluted form of liquid nitrogen is applied to farm fields for growing crops.
