FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The economic impact of the annual Vera Bradley sale continues to make its mark in Fort Wayne this weekend. Vera Bradley officials say they've had three record-breaking days in a row.
Over 40,000 people were registered for this event before it began Thursday. Clost to half of them walked through the doors yesterday alone. Company officials say the magnitude of this event is greater than any other event they've worked from coast to coast.
"I've been in the show business for 25 years. I've done 3,000 shows in 250 buildings, and this by far is the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time," says David Marquart, President of Advanced Expo Solutions Inc.
Shoppers were lined up early today - waving, laughing and cheering - with every yard closer they got to the rows of sale items. Yesterday officials realized the crowds were so huge there wasn't a way to get everyone through by the end of the evening, so they closed the doors early. But neither that... nor the early morning rain could dampen these shoppers' spirits.
"I got myself a stephanie, a laptop bag, a lot of Christmas presents. I have a lot of friends back at home that love Vera Bradley too," says Alicia Harmon, a shopper from South Carolina.
People from 48 states and six countries have attended the sale. Many standing in line were shouting out the name of their hometowns or showing off their driver's license. Hotels are booked all of they way up to Angola, and many will book their rooms for next year before leaving this weekend.
"We have heard from many of the restaurants and motels around here that this is one of the biggest days they have all year," says Barbara Baekaard, Co-Founder of Vera Bradley.
Sunday is the final day of this year's sale.
