FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Construction has shut down a very busy street on Fort Wayne's southwest side.
Expect a lengthy detour for the next six months.
Monday morning, crews closed Ardmore Avenue between Jefferson Boulevard and Taylor Street.
Crews will widen that portion of Ardmore to four lanes and add a new bike trail. Curbs and driveway approaches will be updated, and new street lighting, storm sewers landscaping will also be added.
Officials say the goal of the project is to improve Ardmore's traffic flow. The expansion of the north-south route will allow commerical traffic to flow more freely fropm the airport to industrial complexes on the city's north side.
Again, Ardmore from Jefferson to Taylor will be closed until late October.
The detour route will use Taylor, Freeman and Jefferson.
