FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Replacing the Clinton Street Bridge will cost a half-million dollars more than projected but construction is still expected to begin in about a month.
When INDOT officials said it's time to replace the Clinton Street Bridge, city leaders took the opportunity to design an eye-pleasing gateway to downtown.
Construction will begin sometime this summer.
INDOT Spokeswoman Stacie McCormick says, “We know that it is going to happen sometime this construction season. We do have a completion date of 2011 and we will be maintaining traffic throughout the area across the bridge during the construction season.”
The new bridge will have a few memorials in honor of Doctor Martin Luther King Jr.
It will also have a new walking path connecting Headwaters Park to Lawton Park.
The project now totals $7.5 million.
