FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - One lane on the Clinton Street Bridge into downtown is now closed as crews begin utility work ahead of a major bridge project.

Beginning in July, the bridge will be replaced by the new "Martin Luther King-Jr." Bridge.

The new bridge features a steel truss design and a pedestrian friendly walkway.

Designers say the impact to traffic will be minimal.

Fort Wayne City Engineer David Ross says, “We'll build have the bridge at a time to allow two lanes of traffic on. But we also viewed the other bridges close by and there's plenty of capacity to carry traffic across the rivers and into downtown."

Construction is expected to be completed in 2011.
