FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Community religious leaders are disappointed with the decision to keep a suspended fort Wayne officer accused of abusing a suspect on the job.
Several prominent spiritual leaders including Reverend Michael Latham say the Board of Public Safety made the wrong decision to keep Officer Scott Morales on the force.
Morales allegedly choked and slammed a suspect's head multiple times in February. Chief Rusty York recommended firing Morales after this incident.
Reverend Latham says the board of public safety should have followed the chief's decision.
“But when decisions are made like this consistently it really concerns us,” Latham said. “So we would ask the mayor to take a look at those decisions and who's there and look at the best person to place it.”
“The vast of our police department are very ethical hard working men and women who go out there and do a great job every single day so the community listening out there should be proud of those officers,” York said.
The man who appoints the Board of Safety, Mayor Tom Henry, did not return phone calls Thursday for a comment.
