FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Today is the ninth annual "Dump The Pump" Day and Fort Wayne Citilink is joining in to encourage people to use public transportation.

The event is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association who aim to highlight public transportation during a time of ballooning gas prices. The first "Dump The Pump" day was in 2006, when gas prices were "only" $3 per gallon.

According to the latest APTA Transit Savings Report " individuals in a two-person household can save an average of more than $10,181 annually by downsizing to one car."
