FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) -- A special guest has made its way to IPFW to spend its summer vacation at IPFW's field house.

The floor used for the NCAA Tournament's East Regional In Madison Square Garden was laid down last night for the mastodons to use for its off-season workouts.

While a new floor is being installed in the Gates Center, IPFW will practice on the same floor where National Champion UCONN defeated Michigan State.

"It's got a little history behind it and we're excited to have a wood floor dropped down in the field house for us to work out this summer," said IPFW's Men's Basketball Coach Jon Coffman. " Our guys spent eight hours yesterday actually grinding through laying the floor themselves. They were the muscles doing it so there's absolutely no entitlement with these guys," he added.

The construction of the new basketball floor in the gates center is supposed to take most of the summer to complete.
