INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (21Alive) - Parasailing accident victim, Sidney Good was released from an Indianapolis hospital Tuesday.
Sidney was released one week after her friend, and the other teen injured in the parasailing accident, Alexis Fairchild, was finally released to go home.
Sidney's parents, Eric and Amy Good, released a statement Tuesday:
With more than 37 days being spent in hospitals in Florida and Indiana, we are finally able to take our daughter home. Today Sidney is being released from Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI) to return home where she will continue to recover from her injuries. She will need to continue therapies as an outpatient and will have frequent follow ups with her doctors going forward, but she will be home.
We are in a much better place with Sidney now than we were a month ago. Her recovery has been nothing short of a miracle. We thank God, the talented doctors and nurses as well as the therapists for her amazing progress. We would also like to thank everyone at home and around the country for all the prayers and support during these difficult weeks.
So now both girls are homeward bound after several surgeries and spending about a month in hospital care.
Alexis, 17, returned to IU Health Methodist Hospital two weeks ago to undergo more surgery on the injuries she sustained in the July 1 accident off Panama City Beach, Fla.
In a statement released through the hospital July 30th, Alexis' parents will continue her rehab in Northeast Indiana.
"Our daughter has a long road to recover," Michael & Angela Fairchild said. "She will receive IV treatments at home and will begin outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy in Fort Wayne."
She will have more surgery in the coming months, her parents says.
Alexis took to Twitter on Tuesday night with an update of her own.
"Thanks to all who's prayed," Alexis said in a note uploaded to her @fairteen account. "I'm just thankful to be coming home and blessed to be doing as good as I am!"
Statement from Michael & Angela Fairchild - July 30, 2013
"Alexis was released from IU Health Methodist hospital this evening and began her journey home to Huntington, IN. She will receive IV treatments at home and will begin outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy in Fort Wayne. Alexis will have another surgery in a couple months. Our daughter still has a long road to recovery.
"Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for all the prayers and support we have received from around the world. We would like to thank those who have arranged fundraising events and upcoming blood drives and motorcycle rides in our hometown in honor of our daughter and Sidney Good. We'd also like to thank the medical teams at IU Health Methodist who have cared for Alexis."
