FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewCenter) -- Theodora Eddison, an 8th grader from Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran School, won the Journal Gazette’s 58th Annual Allen County Spelling Bee presented by Touchstone Energy on Saturday.
Theodora correctly spelled "recalcitrant" to win the bee. Recalcitrant is an adjective meaning “obstinately defiant of authority or restraint: stubbornly disobedient.”
During the bee, Theodora also correctly spelled basmati, sansei and infinitesimal correctly.
Theodora, 14, will represent Allen County at the Area Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at IPFW’s Rhinehart Music Center. She will compete with winners from 15 northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio counties for a chance to represent The Journal Gazette and Touchstone Energy at the 85th Annual Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May of 2012.
Kyla Macaraig, a 7th grader from Concordia Lutheran Lower School finished second. She misspelled fuselage (spelling it fusilage) placing as runner up. Kyla will be asked to participate in the Area Spelling Bee if Theodora is unavailable to attend.

1st place: Theodora Eddison, Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran School
2nd place: Kyla Macaraig, Concordia Lutheran Lower School
3rd place: Cesar Chantaca, Most Precious Blood School
