Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Ozone levels around Allen County are forecast to be “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” on Thursday, June 28, 2012. So officials have deemed it as an Air Quality Action Day for Ozone.
For this day, the city of Fort Wayne plans on opening up six cooling centers.
The Community Center on Main St. and the Public Safety Academy on Patriot Crossing will be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Lifetime Sports Academy at the McMillen Park Golf Clubhouse will be ope from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. The Cooper Center on Clinton St. along with the Jennings Center will also be opened up from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Those that are most affected, active children and adults, the elderly, and people with heart or lung disease, should limit or avoid prolonged outdoor exertion during action days. If breathing becomes difficult, go indoors and contact your health care provider.
To reduce ozone levels, everyone should:
Walk, bike, carpool or use public transportation
Avoid using the drive-through, combine errands into one trip, and turn off the engine when idling for more than 10 seconds
Maintain proper air pressure in tires
Delay lawn mowing or vehicle refueling until after 7 p.m.
Conserve electricity by turning off lights and computers when not in use
