Allen County, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Meet Bomber, Boomer, Gage, Major, Hawk and Thor. Who along with their human partners graduated Thursday morning from the Allen County Sheriffs Department K9 Academy.
The officers and their dogs receive months of training at a nationally-known training center located on Lima Road.
The teams receive training in a variety of skills and scenarios that can include basic police work, tracking, drug and explosive detection, crowd control and public relations.
Officer Ingrid Herriot of the Allen County Sheriffs Department has known almost her entire life this was what she wanted to do.
Herriott said, “I have a great love of animals. I always loved working with them and ever since I wanted to become a police officer as a small child I knew it would involve K9 as well. This is the start for a career for me. I hope to go through a couple of dogs out on the road in addition to being out at Southwest Allen County community schools.”
Four of the teams will be serving here in Northeastern Indiana.
One pair will be serving in Dayton, and one came all the way from Arkansas for this specialized training.
