FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Children aren't the only apprehensive ones during back to school season, just ask parents who feel their pocketbooks are quickly draining.
"I spent $40.00 and that's not even everything on my list!" exclaimed Lisa Rayme, referring to the list her son's school provided her.
Most schools in northeast Indiana provide parents with lists of needed supplies. Indiana's NewsCenter obtained one that listed 39 items.
"It's too much," said Rayme.
The list INC obtained is for students at Fort Wayne's Franke Park Elementary School.
It lists the standard pencils, papers and glue sticks, but also includes paper cups, sticky notes, zip lock bags and play dough.
Gym shorts, shirts and shoes were also on the list.
"Back when I was in school, we only needed paper, pencils and erasers," Rayme said.
Indiana's NewsCenter filled a cart with many of the suggested items, checking out with a total of $97.88.
That included less than half of the listed items.
Some parents tell Indiana's NewsCenter that their supplies end up on shelves in the schools supply room, not in their child's classroom.
What do you think? Are back to school costs too much to take? Are some of the items on school-supplied shopping lists necessary?
Sound off and let us know.
