FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Some low- and moderate-income residents in Allen County were able to save a lot on their taxes this past year, all thanks to the Free Tax Preparation Program coordinated by United Way of Allen County and the Volunteer Center @ RSVP.

The 2,029 area residents that received free tax assistance were able to save over $3 million, which is a 22 percent increase over last year's $2.5 million in refunds.

Residents earning less than $50,000 annually had the opportunity to qualify for free tax preparation from IRS certified tax volunteers.

This year volunteers gave over 3,500 hours of their time to help.
