FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A Fort Wayne woman is charged with felony neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, after her 3-year-old son showed evidence of abuse and broken bones and fractures that weren't medically treated.

Court papers say 23-year-old Nichole Gruss's son had facial bruising, swelling in his arms and scars on his rear end.

Gruss's partner, 31-year-old Tawoenya Portee is charged with three felonies, including battery with a deadly weapon and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.

The 3-year-old said Portee used shoes, a belt and a bat on his behind.

Another son may have also had a broken rib.

Several doctors said the injuries were the result of abuse and neglect.
