FORT WAYNE, Indiana (Indiana's NewsCenter)-- Health officials are warning Hoosiers to be cautious of high levels of blue-green algae in local reservoirs and lakes.
The Indiana Department of Health says blue-green algae can grow quickly in the hot weather conditions the state is experiencing right now. Exposure to the algae can cause rashes, skin and eye irritation and other uncomfortable effects like nausea, stomachache and tingling in fingers and toes.
Officials say most of the reservoirs tested contain levels of algae high enough to cause these negative health effects.
