Big Changes Coming For S.A.T.

INDIANA (21Alive) -- For the first time in nearly a decade, big changes are coming to the SAT exam for high school students.

Vocabulary items won't be as obscure. Calculators will be prohibited in portions of a narrowed down math section. The essay will be optional and scoring returns to the 1600 point system.

The idea behind all of this is to provide openness and get rid of the sense of mystery often tacked-on to the test and make it more fair for everyone taking it. The new SAT will debut in the spring of 2016.
