FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - People who ride the bus in downtown Fort Wayne may soon be hopping on and off at a different hub.

Recently Indiana's NewsCenter reported that city officials are seeking money for a study to explore the potential of elevating the train tracks above the roadway on South Anthony Blvd. near the abandoned Tokheim Plant.

The city wants to be ready to accommodate high-speed rail service.

If Citilink gets its way, the downtown bus transfer station will be re-located, along that same track.

Fort Wayne Strategic Planner Tom Walls says, “This one is key, because this is the line that goes through downtown. It's the same line that runs past Baker Street Station. It's the place downtown where we're looking at some increasingly multi-modal transportation hubs."

Citilink officials say returning the downtown hub to property just east of the Baker Street Station is their preference, but that the plan can't go forward without approval from the Federal Transit Authority.
