FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- The city of Fort Wayne is testing fire hydrants in the northwest area of the city to find leaks in the water lines.
So far crews found one leaking hydrant, but expect to find several leaks in the water mains as they continue over the next six weeks.
The company doing the testing, M.E. Simpson, has workers using a high quality listening device to find the leaks.
“It's a very important process,” Scott Mcelroy, regional manager, M.E. Simpson said. “In a lot of areas there may be stuff leaking that people don't know about, that city officials don't know about, the water is not surfacing and they want to get on that and take care of it.”
The leaks are an indicator of weak points in a water main and the city says the leaks will help them prioritize water mains for repair.
