FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – The day after 21Alive reported about a woman who is facing a $1,000 water bill for allegedly using 100,000 gallons of water in one month, a local man made a donation website and is asking the community to “help a stranger out”.
Eric Witte saw Nicole Tate’s story on the evening news and decided to take it upon himself to help her raise the money for the bill. The donation website is asking for $1 donations and runs through midnight on Friday. The donations are made secure by PayPal.
The website states "Helping out a stranger with her unfair water bill. 1100 people donate $1 dollar, lets help out our fellow man! total donation to cover fees as well!".
Nicole Tate got a water bill stating that her monthly usage was 100,000 gallons, which according to the Environmental Protection Agency is closer to the average American family’s yearly usage. Tate complained to the city, they came out and replaced her water meter and then her bill went back to normal. But the city says the old meter was working properly and is holding her responsible for the $1,000 bill.
Tate has filed a complaint with the BBB and has a hearing set for April 30 with the city. But just the other day she received a notice telling her that her water will be disconnected April 22.
