FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21 Alive) -- The times are a changing and after 100 years of business Coney Island has decided to come along with that change and accept credit and debit cards.
Many hungry costumers have been waiting for this moment for years.
Coney Island has transitioned into the 21st century of accepting not only cash, but your plastic as well.
"We’ve gone from being very old school, the old world, to the new world of charge cards,” Co-owner Kathy Choka said.
Just this past week, Coney Island released a statement saying they were out with the old and in with the new.
“We've had a lot of people ask about it and we usually in the past have to just refer them down the street to a bank machine but at Coney Island we look forward to another 100 years and this is the future.”
Generations of people have been coming to Coney Island for the one hundred years it's been open and the change has been a long time coming.
"It isn't all of a sudden we've been contemplating this a long time as it was just a matter of getting all the pieces in the place."
For the regular customers, well they never thought they'd see this day come.
“Unbelievable, never thought that would ever happen. Finally the 21st century," Mike Ternet said.
So if you are someone who's been a Coney Island lover for as long as you can remember, the credit card system will not change anything other than just another way to pay for those famous dogs.
"We know that this place is all about, it's guaranteed to be protected and little things can change but the essence of the Coney Island will never change as long as Jim and I are alive running this place the nature and character of the Coney Island will remain the same."
