FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – An early Tuesday morning credit union robbery leaves one employee injured.
Police say at 8:35 A.M. a black man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt arrived at the Freedom Financial Federal Credit Union on Inwood Drive during the opening and approached the employee from behind in the parking lot and then forced her inside the credit union demanding money.
The employee was then struck in the head with an object held by the robber, upset that the employee was unable to open the vault.
The robber fled the scene on foot.
A canine unit tracked the suspect eastbound and lost the scent in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex in the 2000 block of Bayview Drive. Police believe that he entered a vehicle and left the apartment complex.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the City of Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222, or Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-STOP (7867).
Once the robbery was reported all nearby schools in a 5-mile radius were alerted with some going on an unofficial lockdown.
This is the third time the credit union has been targeted for robbery since Nov. 2011.
