Auburn, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- DeKalb Health officially opened its new ExpressCare track this week, expanding and enhancing the service and care it provides DeKalb County and surrounding areas.

According to a news release issued Wednesday, the new ExpressCare track offers the community accessible, walk-in medical care for the treatment of non-emergency or non-critical conditions. It is part of DeKalb Health’s new, 15,000-square-foot Emergency Department and provides a faster, more convenient and lower-cost alternative to traditional emergency care.

“We are very excited to open this track and increase the breadth of care available to our community and region,” Kirk Ray, president and CEO of DeKalb Health, said in the news release. “ExpressCare offers a unique combination – the accessibility of a walk-in service with the experience, expertise and capabilities of our new Emergency Room. Patients won’t have to drive 30 minutes to access this level of care.”

Backed by the same skilled DeKalb Health nursing staff and its ongoing partnership with Emergency Physicians of Indiana, the new ExpressCare track will be able to assess and treat a wide variety of non-emergency conditions and symptoms, including:

• Cough/sore throat
• Minor burns
• Flu
• Minor illness
• Minor injuries
• Upper respiratory infections
• Allergies
• Ear pain
• And more

“This enhancement of service from DeKalb Health is a great development for the community,” Keith Schreffler, MD, of Emergency Physicians of Indiana. “It offers numerous benefits and treatment options to people throughout DeKalb County and beyond.”

ExpressCare is located at the new DeKalb Health Emergency Department and will be open Monday through Friday from 3pm-11pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am-10pm.
