Victim of West Dewald House Fire ID'd

Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of Monday morning’s house fire on West Dewald.

The victim, 84-year-old John L. Shirey or Fort Wayne, was pulled from the burning home and pronounced dead at the scene. Thermal burns and smoke inhalation was reported to be the cause of his death.

Fire crews were called to 744 West Dewald around 5:30 a.m. Monday to fight a fire.

When they went inside to battle the flames, they found a body. They pulled the victim out and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire which had spread from the kitchen to the second floor.
