Don't Be a Victim of Identity Theft, Shred Your Private Information

Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – The Indiana State Police, along with the U.S. Postal Service, the Better Business Bureau, and 3Rivers Federal Credit Union are all working together to help protect Hoosiers from identify theft by offering a free “Shred It Day.”

The group is offering a proactive approach to preventing identity theft by holding a “Shred It Day” on Thursday, June 28th from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the 3Rivers Credit Union at 3750 E. Dupont Road near Diebold Road in Fort Wayne.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Ron Galaviz says, “When people discard, whether they're old bills, bank statements, things of that nature. They've got personal information on them, they could have their name, social security number, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, things of that nature. Something in the wrong hands that could be detrimental to the credit that you've spent your entire life working hard to build.”

Anyone wishing to bring their unused or unwanted papers, credit cards, or other such materials that contain personal information to the location, can have their items destroyed free of charge.
