Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - The East Allen School District is without a leader as they finish off the school year.

The board president says they don't plan to appoint an interim superintendent because the board believes the district is able to operate without one for now.

The board is searching for a new superintendent. However, the process will take at least three months and it could be between 60 and 90 days before the final candidates are revealed.

The previous superintendent, Dr. Karyle Green, announced in January she would leave the district at the end of her contract in June 2014. Instead she resigned and left the district March 1.

The EACS school board president says this allows them to start their search for a new leader sooner. And as they search he says he has faith in the current staff.

"We have a staff that we value, that know how to do their job, that know how to run a school. We don't feel like it's really necessary to have somebody come in and lord it over everyone else, just let our staff do what they know how to do," said Neil Reynolds, President, EACS Board of Trustees.

The parents we spoke with say they're not worried about the lack of a superintendent for the remainder of this school year, but they do have high expectations for the new leader.

"I think it's a good idea, because I want them to make the right decision this time. I'm really concerned about the education for our kids," said Suzanne Brooks, parent.

"We need to see just a lot of change with the way that we spend money in this district. Overall consolidation probably needs to come back to the table again," said Molly Turnwald, parent.

Another parent is worried about the length of time the superintendent will stay with the district.

"Gonna do something for, you know, East Allen instead of, you know, coming and going in and out," said Kathy Shankle, parent.

The school board expects to have a new superintendent in place before the start of the next school year.
