INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (21Alive) -- The Indiana Education Roundtable passed a major overhaul of the state's education standards yesterday
The panel, co-chaired by Governor Mike Pence and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Rita, wrote new standards for English and Math that they believe will better assess a student's progress.
Indiana is the first state to replace "common core" standards with another set of standards. Some of the opponents of Common Core believe the new standards still too similar and need more modifications.
