Northeast Indiana (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - As of Tuesday, 48 states stretching from Nevada to South Carolina, were said to be experiencing drought conditions.

According to the Department of Agriculture 1,016 counties in 26 states have been declared disaster areas. That number includes the entire Indiana’s NewsCenter viewing area.

With water reservoirs at low levels, a mandatory water ban was implemented in the Indianapolis area in hopes of saving an additional 25 million gallons a day. The ban mainly affects lawn watering.

The National Climatic Data Center reports that the past 12 months have been the warmest the U.S. has experienced since records began in 1895.
