Arrest Made In Meijer Theft

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - The Fort Wayne Police Department has identified and arrested a man wanted in a recent theft and attempted theft at two Fort Wayne Meijer stores.

William Whetsel Jr., 39, of Fort Wayne, has been preliminarily charged with misdemeanor theft.

Police were called on a theft investigation to the Meijer, 5909 Illinois Rd. Employees told police that Whetsel attempted to steal three car batteries and two shirts worth $350.

When store security confronted Whetsel, he dropped the merchandise, left the store and drove away, police say.

Police say Whetsel is also responsible for a theft from the Meijer at 6309 Lima Rd.

Whetsel is also held on two active warrants for back child support.
