Family Apology Toward Shooting Victim (VIDEO)

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (21Alive) -- The family of the man police say killed officer Rod Bradway is speaking out.

They released the following apology over the weekend.

“It is with great sadness that we extend our heartfelt prayers and sympathy to the family of officer Rod Bradway, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and the entire city of Indianapolis,” Byrdo’s family said. “It is our prayer that God will provide you with peace and healing during this very difficult time."

Police say officer Rod Bradway was trying to save a woman being held at gunpoint by Steven Byrdo.

Byrdo was hiding behind an apartment door and allegedly fatally shot Bradway as he entered to help the woman, who was Byrdo's ex-girlfriend.

Bradway, 41 was married with two children.

His funeral is scheduled for Thursday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis.
