Fort Wayne, In (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- A fast food worker's Twitter post showing him allegedly urinating on food has the Allen County Health Department, local police and Taco Bell investigating.
The Taco Bell employee posted pictures on Twitter saying he had urinated on a Taco Bell food product, inside the restaurant. Indiana's NewsCenter brought the Twitter posts to the attention of the health department and Taco Bell, in which Cameron Jankowski bragged about urinating on the food. Taco Bell officials say Jankowski "is suspended and will be fired from his job." Jankowski worked at the Taco Bell restaurant at 6608 Lima Rd.
Mindy Waldron, an administrator with the Allen County Health Department, says they were able to corroborate Jankowski’s identity at the Lima Road location as well as the area in the restaurant in which the alleged incident occurred.
“We'll look around the facility. In this instance we wanted to kind of match things up to pictures. That type of thing, to maybe figure out if that was accurate. And then we look into the practices and look around and take pictures if we need and then we'll engage in a lot of education with this facility,” she says.
Waldron says employees at the Taco Bell will be given mandatory training.
“We are requiring mandatory education of all of their staff at some point in the near future where we can sit down with all of them and stress the importance of the general food safety practices and then some of these issues as to what the ramifications could be associated with those.”
Taco Bell also says the staff will be retrained, the facility will be deep-cleaned and it could even be temporarily shut down to ensure the safety of its food.
Amy Kavanaugh, with Taco Bell, says the company is taking the incident, prank or not, very seriously saying they are prepared to "do whatever is necessary" to ensure public health is not compromised. Jankowski said on his Twitter page that the food was thrown away and never served to customers.
Kavanaugh released a statement on behalf of Taco Bell saying, "Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and team members. We have strict food handling procedures and zero tolerance for any violations. As soon as we learned of the situation, we immediately investigated and found the photo was an ill-conceived prank and the food was never served to customers. We find this prank absolutely unacceptable, and we plan to terminate anyone involved and work with authorities to pursue legal action."
