FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -The apartment intruder has been identified as 18-year-old Patrick M. Lee of Fort Wayne.
Police say Lee was shot after kicking in the door of an apartment at the Black Bear Creek Apartment complex off Reed Road about 10:15 Thursday night.
The resident of the apartment pulled out a handgun of his own and shot Lee, who then collapsed outside of the building before being taken to a local hospital, where he died.
Under Indiana law it is legal for you to use deadly force to protect yourself or someone else in your home from serious injury.
Neighbors say Lee and the resident may have known each other.
Police last responded to the apartment 18-months ago on a robbery call.
