SWEESTER, Ind. (21Alive) -- The former Sweetser Town Marshal has found himself on the other side of the law after being arrested and charged with official misconduct.

Christopher Tarlton, 33, was arrested Thursday and charged with two felony counts of official misconduct. According to court papers, Tarlton purchased a firearm at a discount rate through a company that sells only to law enforcement, then turned around and sol the weapon to a city councilman.

He is also accused of asking residents to either smoke marijuana or over medicate themselves so he could evaluate them to stay current on his certification through the state.

Tarlton is no longer employed as a Marshal.
