Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- There seems to be a debate brewing within Fort Wayne City Council when it comes to an anticipated $3-6 million shortfall in the city's budget.
On Wednesday, Republican Councilmen John Crawford, Mitch Harper, and Russ Jehl came forward with their ideas to off-set the expected shortfall.
They say in this economy raising taxes shouldn't be an option.
Instead they suggest using what they call discretionary funds like the city's $75 million Legacy Fund, $3 million Rainy Day Fund, or $20 million TIF fund.
The City of Fort Wayne's Public Information Officer John Perlich issued the following statement: “The Administration looks forward to having a dialogue with City Council as we work together to find solutions to position our city in the best way possible. The proposed 2013 budget will be presented to City Council in a few weeks. Since Mayor Henry has been in office, he has been committed to keeping the city’s finances strong while continuing to provide quality services to residents.”
