Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The Fort Wayne Urban League held an open house Wednesday accepting job and student applications for the Thurgood Marshall Leadership Academy.
The Urban League was accepting job and student applications. There are still 50 positions available, and they are accepting kindergarten through 8th grade students.
There are currently 165 students enrolled in the charter school.
The leadership academy is based on a school in Gary where 85 percent of 3rd grade and 63 percent of high school students passed the ISTEP test.
The Urban League president says only 28 percent of public school students in Fort Wayne pass ISTEP, and he believes they can do better.
“Every week we're going to dedicate time to help each of our kids from Kindergarten on to be leaders of themselves so they can make good choices, not follow the leader or follow peer pressure, but actually make a statement through the leadership that they demonstrate, “ Urban League President and CEO Jonathan C. Ray said.
Applications will be accepted through next month. If interested contact the Urban League.
