DALLAS, TX (NBC) - You've heard of fried twinkies, fried candy bars and even friend butter. So what's next? At the Texas State Fair later this month, fried bubble gum will make its debut. Right now, it's in a competition for the best tasting and most creative fried food.

Last year, it was all about the fried beer. The year before that, fried butter but this year, Justin Martinez is going pink, bubble gum pink.

Martinez says, "It almost has that blow up effect where it almost looks like someone's blowing a bubble."

He says the idea came from one of his employees and this year Martinez is hoping his friend bubble gum wins top honors at the Big Tex Choice Awards.

How does Martinez make it?

"What we do is we infuse the marshmallow with bubble gum extract and that's where it gets the flavor," Martinez said and after that put it in some pink batter then the fryer. "And with a little bit of blue icing on top and then those chicklets to give it some color, it gives it a nice appeal."

Judges will choose the best tasting and most creative fried foods on Monday.

The Texas State Fair runs September 30 through October 23.
