FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- The status of the iconic GE sign is in limbo as there are preparations being made to tear down the historic GE campus just south of downtown.

Officials from GE told 21Alive that there are no immediate plans for what will be done with the sign that has been a major symbol in the city's skyline. The historic preservation group ARCH says that the sign could be moved to another GE site on Anthony Blvd., but they would like a different outcome for the sign.

GE says that the sign is safe where it is for the time being, but it could deteriorate over time and become a safety problem.
