FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Officials say there are several reasons for a high number of people coughing and sneezing lately.
Doctors say it isn't just a bug causing the recent influx of sick people.
They say for some, it's just allergies, which can lead to sore throats and other symptoms. For others, it's a minor cold and for the really unlucky, some nasty viral infections are being passed around.
Parkview ER Dr. Tom Gutwein says, “We've been seeing a lot of illnesses that come in and most of these are viral. Some of them are bacterial, but because people have been getting together more, schools are opening up, kids are accumulating in the classrooms, or congregating in the classrooms, we've seen these viruses spread more rapidly and then in the workplace too.”
Of course, doctors say washing your hands is the best thing you can do to prevent illnesses.
