FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – The owner of VisionScapes Landscaping says it’s not too late to save your lawn.
With all the rain, lately, the grass seems to be looking a little bit greener. Mark Nolot, the owner of VisionScapes Landscaping, says there's been enough rain to make yards turn green again.
Lawns will still be patchy for a while, but he says with the lower temperatures lately, lawns will retain water better. Nolot recommends watering yards in the evening or at night to reduce evaporation, and says you don't need to water everyday. Nolot says watering areas of your lawn for a couple hours once or twice a week will make a big difference. But the best way to rescue your lawn is to fertilize.
“One of the most important things to do is to stay on your fertilizing now. It's very important because weeds are going to germinate very quickly. If you don't spray those weeds out and hit them with some fertilizer they're just going to take over,” said Nolot.
The greener grass is also making more green for Nolot and his business. Nolot says in June, when the drought was at its peak, he had to make 18 layoffs. Mowing revenue fell to $35,000 in June from $100,000 in April. Now, Nolot has re-hired 10 of his workers and is looking to hire about ten more. He says with the better weather conditions, he's hoping business will increase by 25 percent.
