Griffith Expected to Fully Recover

SARASOTA, Fl. (21Alive) --- Doctors in Sarasota say they expect Isaac Griffith to make a full recovery after nearly drowning on Siesta Beach near Sarasota over the weekend.

Griffith, who's now a freshman wide receiver at Indiana University, set receiving records while attending Homestead High School locally.

According to his doctors, Griffith has been brought out of his medically induced coma and is now breathing on is own and responding to verbal instructions. As a result, his condition has been upgraded to serious.

A rip current pulled him away from shore and underwater. A friend pulled him to safety and began CPR.
