Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Hundreds of thousands of people come out to the Three Rivers Festival every year. However, this summer the weather did impact the turnout at some of their events.

"When it is 96 degrees out at 8 p.m. at night people just don't want to go out and enjoy themselves, I mean it will have some impact with us, but we had some other nights that were just fantastic,” said Jack Hammer, Executive Director, Three Rivers Festival.

Hammer said the events that did better during the day were often in shady areas like the Children's Fest at IPFW.

One event that didn't get as many people out was the Rivergames. It's a newer event to the festival. Hammer says he wants to see more people taking part in the canoe races and water balloon fights.

"Rivergames is still developing, and with out partnership with Frontier in this, they're very patient as Fort Wayne comes back to the rivers,” said Hammer.

Hammer hopes the Rivergames gain more traction next year. He says despite a lower attendance it won’t stop them from having the event. In fact, he is looking at adding more games.
