INDIANAPOLIS (www.incnow.tv) - A final decision on the status of Fort Wayne Dr. William Hedrick’s medical license will have to wait for another day. Thursday Hedrick appeared before the Indiana Medical Licensing Board for a disciplinary hearing.
Hedrick is accused of dangerous prescribing habits, which led to death of seven patients. After one witness took the stand for nearly seven hours, the Indiana Medical Licensing Board decided to continue the hearing.
Dr. Timothy King, also a pain management specialist, is a witness in the case. He was called by the Indiana Attorney General Thursday. Deputy Attorney General Jessica Krug used King to establish a standard of care for pain management. King testified that based on his interpretation of the deceased patients' medial records the patients were not properly treated and the medication mixtures for those patients were unsafe.
Pending the outcome, Dr. Hedrick's license is still under emergency suspension.
"The citizens of Indiana continue to be protected," said Gabrielle Owens, Indiana Deputy Attorney General.
Hedrick's defense attorney argues King is not able to properly interpret the medical records.
No date was set for the continuance Thursday. It could be at their next meeting in late March or sooner if all board members can agree on a different date.
