FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Indiana's Senior U.S. Senator Republican Senator Lugar is in Fort Wayne Wednesday night, promoting a campaign to keep Hoosier families from going without food.

Senator Lugar dropped in at the Apple Glen Wal-Mart store mid-afternoon, talking about the benefits of the Hoosiers fighting hunger food drive.

Customers of Kroger, Marsh and Wal-Mart stores can pay $3, $5 or $10 for pre-bagged food items to be shipped directly to food banks and pantries that serve Indiana communities.

Senator Lugar says, “These are elderly people, they're children, families that have disabilities. They are right here in the Fort Wayne area and so this is our opportunity during September to come to this store and others, who are allied with us."

Lugar will be at Community Harvest Food Bank in Fort Wayne later on Wednesday night to announce a capital campaign seeking to raise $5 million to fight hunger in the state.
