FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - More than 150 animals at "Hope for Animals" were up for adoption Saturday with more than 20 local animal welfare organizations on hand to help the animals find new homes.

Ronele Arnold adopted a beautiful puppy pit bull during the event.

She says these events are important for raising awareness about the work of animal shelters in the area.

Arnold says, “Too many people that have pets that don't understand all that's to do with them like with puppies, and if it wasn't for the shelters, there would be too many dogs just running the streets. So more people need to adopt from shelters versus the breeders, just to give these guys a second chance.”

Between 30 and 40 animals found new homes Saturday, and "Hope" says they're excited to host this event again next summer.
