FORT WAYNE,Ind. (21 Alive) -- 'Tis the season to be jolly and potentially gain a little weight.
It's that time of year when it becomes tough to keep up with a fitness or nutrition plan that we may be accustomed for most of the year.
"Having a holiday meal or two is not going to be detrimental to your wellness plan; however the snacking, you want to tame your inner cookie monster and watch the snacking. Choose smaller plates that way you don't over indulge in your eating." Personal Trainer Adrienne Elkins said.
The start of a new year always brings out resolutions for better health and well-being.
With about two weeks left in 2013, getting a jump start on staying active can be as easy as slipping on some shoes and sticking to a normal exercise routine.
If you're new to the exercise world this is the perfect time to start getting active.
There are several different routines you can do in order to healthy stay happy and keep those holiday pounds off during the winter season."
"One thing that you can do to make sure that you stay active is to just stay on a regular schedule. Try to get to the gym just like you normally do, I know that during the holidays season that is hard, so even if you can take twenty to thirty minutes out of your day and get a little activity in that'll be good, better than nothing."
If you're feeling guilty about over snacking and you're someone who doesn't enjoy working out alone, get a membership at a local gym and try a group exercise class.
"If you do over indulge, just come to the gym get a little cardio in, all of our classes are going on we are closed on Christmas day, however most of our classes are going on during the holiday season."
Getting to the gym is half the battle, remembering to properly hydrate yourself is also a key component to a healthier lifestyle and keeping off those unwanted pounds.
"Make sure that we get our 8-10 glasses of water in during the holiday season, not only will that help us be hydrated, it will help with over eating as well."
